MBAH MUJI
Video projection | 10 mins | 2021
This video is one of the outcomes of an artist residency project at Lohjinawi Ark Studio (known as Ark Galerie). The video portrays the daily life of Mbah Muji (80), a farmer who raises cattle to support himself financially. His relationship with the cows he raises has created a reciprocal bond throughout his life, bringing him to many significant moments, one of which was inviting the puppeteer Ki Seno to perform in Ngentak Village. By combining footage of Mbah Muji’s everyday life with the participation of the video recorder, this experience is narrated verbally and juxtaposed with archival materials that remain from the past. Through the medium of moving images on television, the work is intended to become a monument of memory to the life of an elderly farmer and a fragment of his memories in Ngentak Village.
